The three year project (July 2016-July 2019) is funded by Interreg – Central Europe, a European funding programme that encourages cooperation in central Europe, supporting partners to work together beyond borders to improve cities and regions in Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia.

ENERGY@SCHOOL aims to increase the capacity of the public sector for implementing energy smart schools.

The project achieved this by applying an integrated (technical, applicative, educational, political) approach that educates and trains schools staff and pupils to become Senior and Junior Energy Guardians (EGs).

Goals

The project provided:
  • 1 transferrable and 8 customized strategies for smart schools;
  • 1 joint and 7 customized energy smart-school management plans;
  • 3 smartphones Apps for EGs;
  • 8 tested pilot solutions of Energy Efficiency (EE) and Renewable Energy Sources (RES) application in schools under direct contribution of EGs, in the form of guidelines, toolbox, best practices as reference documents and experiences.
  • As well, training & education programmes provided as adaptable and replicable models for capacity raising and Energy Culture rooting.

    of Certimac

    Certimac took part in the writing of the whole proposal. It provided its expertise on energy efficiency and on the market of building materials, its scientific know-how and methodological approach.

    Certimac led thematic Work Package 1, related to the analysis and assessment phase and management tools, implementing a transnational school-facilities inventory and a common methodology for the evaluation of their energy consumptions and the assessment of priority EE interventions, upgrading a decision-support Toolbox for School Energy Guardians and developing EGs Smart-school management plans.

    It assisted the other partners in the remaining work packages, especially with technical inputs.

    In addition to technical expertise, Certimac was involved in many initiatives of training or dissemination of project results and can therefore take part also in the promotion and communication of the project and its results.

    Achieved results

    The international approach and the active involvement of employees, experts, students, teachers and families – the EGs - guaranteed these concrete results:
  • Boosting progressive change towards energy smart schools;
  • Strengthen competencies and skills in the field of EE and RES use in public buildings with reference to schools;
  • Favor cultural change on energy matters in order to increase the amount of energy saved and decrease of CO2 produced thanks to behavioral changes.
