INVOLUCRO project is addressed especially to the construction sector and aims to develop a new model of ventilated façade systems with a high level of innovation in terms of energy efficiency, RES production and monitoring of performance. 

The system innovation aims to the reduction of energy consumption in buildings, thanks to the addition of:
  • innovative materials able to guarantee thermal energy storage (PCM Materials):
  • coating elements that allows to produce energy from photovoltaic system;
  • automation and monitoring systems, in order to control the ventilation and the performance of the building façade related to internal and external temperature, with consistent saving of raw materials from non-renewable sources and the optimization of building performances.
  • Goals

    INVOLUCRO project is co-funded by the Emilia-Romagna Region in the fields of the European regional Development Fund (POR FESR 2014-2020) and aims to:
  • Increase the solar reflective capability of building façade by the use of ceramic slabs with high Solar Reflectance Index (SRI)
    >> Benefit
    Reduce the summer heat load and the energy consumption for cooling , improving the comfort indoors.
  • Increase the thermal storage capability of the building façade, by the use of slabs made with phase change materials.
    >> Benefit
    Increase the thermal inertia of the coating element, improving the dynamic behavior of the building.
  • Control the ventilation inside the air cavity, by the use of electro-mechanical devices applied on the ventilation grill and the external coating.
    >> Benefit
    The device aims to increase the thermal performance of the ventilated façade system both with high solar irradiation in summer and in winter.
  • Increase the exploitation of thermal load in the façade by the use of semi-transparent slabs for solar radiation.
    >> Benefit
    This solution, together with the control of ventilation in the air cavity, allows the development of a hybrid system (Tromble-Michel wall) able to increase thermal load in winter and monitor them in summer through the ventilation cavities.
  • Increase the electrical energy production by means of photovoltaic elements applied on the façade: polycrystalline silicon or silicon amorphous, which has less conversion efficiency but exploits the diffused radiation.
    >> Benefit
    This solution will compensate for the consumption which derives from the implementation of control systems on the façade.
  • Reduce the vibration transmitted to the internal wall, made with specific hooking systems.
    >> Benefit
    Control the acoustic performance of the façade. The technical innovation will be completed by the development of specific calculation methods according to the European calculation model.
