MATER SOS project is addressed to the construction industry and aims to develop low environmental impact construction materials, which could be used in all construction sectors by means of innovative dosages and production processes, starting from traditional construction materials.

The process innovation aims to the reduction of energy consumption for the production process of construction materials, to the recycling of waste materials – SRM Secondary Raw Materials – in percentage higher than 60%, with the consequent saving of raw materials from renewable sources, and to the optimization of building performances.


MATER SOS project is co founded by Emilia-Romagna Region in the fields of the European Regional Development Fund (POR FESR 2014-2020), and aims to:
  • The realization of regional mapping of wastes that derive from production processes of construction materials to recycling (concretes, screeds, mortars, adhesives and tiles). Creations of a matrix “type of waste” vs “type of reuse” as a means for the identification of the better recycling method, in order to identify new Secondary Raw Materials (SRM);
  • The realization of design mix of structural concretes with sustainable matrix and/or aggregates made of SRM (eco-concrete), with specific features depending on the intended use;
  • The realization of design mix for high sustainability concrete screeds (made with SRM) and the realization of prototypes of lightened porous screeds with high thermal insulation level and prototypes of screeds with high thermal-mechanical performances for underfloor heating system;
  • The realization of design mix of multi-performance and high sustainability materials (made with SRM) to use as adhesives for tiles or rendering and plastering polymeric mortar;
  • The realization of ceramic mix with at least the 60% of SRM and the realization of prototypes of ceramic tiles with no-lead paint and ceramic tiles made with photocatalytic coating, self-cleaning and with high solar reflectance;
  • The realization of prototypes of “construction system” (screed + adhesive + tile; concrete + mortar), together with performance technical worksheets.

    The project was admitted to funding for a maximum contribution of Euro 999.912,88 on an investment of Euro 1.394.161,25.
