What is energy consumption monitoring and what is it for?
Energy monitoring is the first step to identify the most convenient energy efficiency interventions. This is a normally non-invasive procedure that does not interfere with normal business activity and which consists in detecting - accurately and in real time - the energy consumption of the company as a whole, of a specific production department, process or machinery.

In the interventions of energy audits, monitoring represents the first step to identify the efficiency improvement interventions at process or building level.

Once the energy efficiency intervention has carried out, monitoring allows  to determine the actual savings achieved through measurements taken before and after the intervention and set up according to international protocols (IPMVP) capable of guaranteeing the correctness of the results: this activity is particularly useful when the correct evaluation of savings is necessary to meet precise contractual commitments.

To whom it is addressed

The monitoring of energy consumption takes place mainly in the industrial sector. However, its applications are increasingly extending to all contexts of the built environment, such as residential or multifunctional buildings. In these cases, monitoring can become the linking tool between metering, temperature control, automation and the analysis of living comfort that can be evaluated through special measurement campaigns dedicated to the quality and healthiness of the environment. The collection and aggregation of energy data can also take place at the urban or production area, to support planning and programming activities.

How we work

Monitoring energy consumption is an operation that requires specific skills and equipment and must therefore be carried out by a specialized partner.

Certimac’s energy Division performs energy monitoring on the basis of a professional protocol that can be applied in a customized manner in different contexts: individual industries, individual buildings, large urban and production areas, with the aim of accurately highlighting anomalies, inefficiencies and areas for improvement. 

The 5 phases of intervention include:
This is a crucial phase in order to better define the customer's objectives and needs. It is conducted by the Certimac specialist in charge of the project through a special questionnaire and preliminary examination of documents. It proceeds with the inspection, where we identify the areas and users to be included in the monitoring, in accordance with ENEA guidelines and according to the specific objectives.
Identification of the energy cost centers to be included in the monitoring plan and design of the system architecture according to the specific needs of the customer and the data collected during the inspection. The energy drivers to be included in the monitoring are identified and the analysis of the system architecture is carried out according to the verifications.
Measuring, storage and data transmission instruments are installed on the field.
Energy indices to be monitored are created and automatic alerts are activated to report any anomalies. Specific support is provided to the customer to consult and use the data obtained through cloud access to a reserved area on a web platform.

Through a dedicated software, it will therefore be possible to monitor and control energy consumption constantly and analytically.
Data collection is accompanied by a phase of technical analysis by Certimac specialists who prepare a detailed report with the results of the survey and possible margins for improvement (for ex ante monitoring) and the energy savings achieved (in case of ex post monitoring).
